Department of Data Science

The Data Science Department is a newly established teaching organization (established in December 2017) of the School of Information Science and Engineering. The goal of the Data Science Department is to train IT people in the new era. The Department of Data Science is located in the field of engineering. We teach students how to use computer tools to obtain valuable information and rules from data. On the other hand, we teach them how to build systems and tools for data management, data analysis, and artificial intelligence.

The Department of Data Science now includes Lanzhou University and Drexel University joint-education program, and the major of data science and big data technology.

Lanzhou-Drexel joint-education program in computer science and technology (data science direction) is approved by the Ministry of Education in July 2017, aiming to introduce foreign high-quality educational resources, advanced education and teaching concepts, school and management experience, enhance the quality of training of Lanzhou University. The study of the joint-education program is four years. The students who complete the first two years of study at Lanzhou University and meet the requirements of Drexel University can go to Drexel University to complete the undergraduate education. The students who meet the requirements can obtain a bachelor's degree from Lanzhou University and Drexel University; the students who do not go to Drexel University after completing the first two years of study at Lanzhou University can continue to study at Lanzhou University at the undergraduate level. The later courses are still taught in bilingual, Chinese and foreign teachers. The students who meet the requirements of the Lanzhou University degree award can obtain the Lanzhou University diploma and bachelor's degree certificate.
