The 2020 'China University Computer Competition-Mobile Application Innovation Competition' organized by the National Institute of Higher Education Computer Education, Zhejiang University, and Apple has been held recently. The team composed of Gao Shiping, Lin Chang'an, Wei Ren, Xu Xiaowei, Gao Chen, Wei Chuyang, and other undergraduates from the School of Information Science and Engineering of Lanzhou University won the third prize in the northwest division.
The award-winning work is an IOS application called 'Hear the World' developed in flutter language to help blind people read books. The application is intended to convert graphics and text into audio messages to help blind and visually impaired people obtain text information. When the user is shooting text that needs to be converted, the application can voice broadcast the current content of the operation. It can use prompt sounds like 'a little further', 'a little closer', 'a little left', 'a little right',  and other prompts to help optimize the shooting effect. In order to facilitate users to record information, the application also provides a storage function, which avoids re-transformation of some information that may need to be used multiple times. When encountering a large number of texts such as books that need to be converted and stored, users can also keep various pages of text in batches as electronic books at once.
The main application development includes the coding of core functions, user interface design, and video editing. During the competition, the participating team members used the summer vacation time to overcome many difficulties and discussed the design scheme of the user interface and the realization method of the core function many times. The launch of this App will help the visually impaired gain reading convenience, which will also motivate them to keep going.

Competition background: 'China Collegiate Computing Contest' (C4 for short) is a competition of science and technology for students of various majors in colleges and universities across the country. It was jointly established in 2016  by the Computer Professional Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Education of the College Software Engineering Teaching Guidance Committee, the University Computer Course Teaching Guidance Committee of the Ministry of Education, and the National Institute of Computer Education in Higher Education. From the first to the fourth, the total number of participants exceeded 100,000, and the influence was extensive. The fifth 'China University Computer Contest' (2020) is still hosted by the National College Computer Education Research Association. The 'Mobile Application Innovation Competition' is one of the competition units of the 'China University Computer Competition', jointly organized by Zhejiang University and Apple. 'China Collegiate Computing Contest-Mobile Application Innovation Competition' aims to promote the reform of the teaching content and teaching methods of computer courses in colleges and universities, stimulate students' sense of innovation, and improve students' ability to analyze and solve problems using computers, especially the design and development of mobile applications ability, cultivate team spirit, improve the teaching level of college mobile application development courses, promote inter-school exchanges, and enrich campus academic atmosphere.
